Governor's School faculty have distinguished themselves
as college teachers and who want to work in a multidisciplinary environment
that nurtures and stimulates students with a genuine interest in mathematics
and science.
Julie Drewry, Ph.D.
Director
Precalculus, Introduction to Research
Dr. Drewry has a long history with Virginia's Governor's Schools. She
was a member of the first graduating class of the Roanoke Valley
Governor's School and returned to teach there for 12 years. She earned a
B.S. in mathematics from the College of William and Mary and completed
graduate work in mathematics at North Carolina State University. After
several years at RVGS, Dr. Drewry completed an M.Ed. in Public School
Administration from the University of Virginia. In order to gain some
experience in administration, she took an assistant principal position
at her other former high school, Patrick Henry High School. While at PH,
she completed the Virginia trifecta with a Ph.D. in Educational
Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech. Dr. Drewry also
teaches a graduate research course at Virginia Tech.
David Barrett
Physics, Precalculus, Calculus
Mr.
Barrett came to DSLCC from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he
taught math and physics. His passion is astronomy, and takes every opportunity
to show off the DSLCC telescope.
Michael Scott
Statistics
Dr.
Scott is Chairman of the Arts and Sciences Division at DSLCC. He taught
English at DSLCC for many years, but now that he has his Ph.D. In statistics,
he mostly teaches statistics classes on campus and the web.
