March 7, 2000 Governor's School to Hold Open HouseThe Jackson River Governor’s School, located at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, will hold an Open House on the evenings of March 21, 28 and April 4, 2000, in conjunction with the College’s annual Academic Bowl. The Open House will be held from 5:30 to 6:20 pm and 8:15 to 9:00 pm on March 21 and 28 and 5:30 to 6:20 on April 4. The Governor’s School is located on the second floor of Backels Hall. Visitors will see classrooms, the Governor’s School office and the chemistry, physics and biology labs where the instructional program will be held next fall. On March 21 and 28, there will be a demonstration of the telescope used in the College’s astronomy classes, with viewings outside Backels Hall from 8:20 to 9:00 pm, weather permitting. The Jackson River Governor’s School is a regional public school for motivated high school juniors and seniors who want to go beyond the traditional school offerings in science, mathematics and technology. Rising juniors and seniors will want to check out this opportunity as they consider options for next year. Younger students may want to consider this new program as they begin planning courses to take in middle and high school.
