2005 JRGS Science FairMonday, March 21, 2005 The Jackson River Governor's School held their 2005 science fair on Thursday, February 3, at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Governor's School juniors all prepared and carried out a science or engineering research project, either as an individual or as a team of two. Five projects were submitted in the categories of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. Students from Alleghany High School, Covington High School, and Parry McCluer High School participated. Judges for the event were DSLCC faculty members Mr. Dave Barrett and Ms. Paige McMurry. The top three projects went on to competition in the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair on Saturday, March 19, at Hollins Univeristy in Roanoke. These winning projects were "Effect of Adding Soluble Substances to Water on its Ability to Superheat", "Effects of Caffeine and Sugar on Heart Rate and Blood Pressure", and "Which Type of Wood Gives Off the Most Heat and Leaves the Least Ash?" Honorable Mention was given to two projects: "Bulletproof Shielding " and "Projectiles".
At the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair, Amanda and Adrian took FIRST place in Team Physical Science A!
