____Hiking boots (well broken in, waterproof preferably)

____Change of clothes in plastic bag to be left in van until we return to the trailhead.

____Light rope (around 30 ft. long)

Possible Backpacking Foods Not in Cans or Glass

Squeeze margarine/cheese

Solid cheeses

Pepperoni

Instant potatoes

Instant noodles/rice/soups

Tang/instant coffee/hot chocolate

Tea bags/dehydrated (powdered) milk

Plastic pudding/applesauce cups

Candy/cookies

Fruit (dried or fresh)

Beef jerky/beef sticks/cheese sticks

Peanut butter/cheese crackers

Nabs of all sorts

Pre-made PBJ sandwiches carried in plastic box

Pop tarts

Rice, etc. cakes

Instant cereals (oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits, etc.)

Packets of sugar/salt/pepper

Instant "whole" meals at specialty stores (e.g., Blue Ridge Outdoors)

 

We do not permit taking "cardboard" or other liquid drinks! They weigh too much. Take powdered drinks only!!
